The Trifecta You Don't Want To Cash In...

Miami Beach Chiropractor Dr. Todd Narson writes:

High serum glucose. High cholesterol. High blood pressure. This is a trifecta you definitely don't want to have. This combination of laboratory findings is known as metabolic syndrome, a new medical term that has been in existence for less than ten years. It's well-known that there is an epidemic of obesity in America. Two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese. Thirty percent of American children are overweight or obese. The numbers continue to increase. The United States is also in the midst of an epidemic in diabetes. Eight percent of Americans over age 20 have diabetes - one in twelve people and the numbers are increasing - FAST!

Olympic Chiropractic - Don't You Deserve The Same Care as TEAM USA??

Miami Beach Chiropractor Dr. Todd Narson writes;

Chiropractic care has been extremely successful in helping 'Joe Public' regain their health since it's official founding in 1896. So well in fact, it's withstood the decades of negative attacks from orthodox medicine(which has since improved), slander in the media(which still goes on) and more. Chiropractic has been so successful that in spite of all the negative publicity, the athletes themselves demanded chiropractic be there at the Olympic Training Center and at the Olympic Games.

Why? Simply because joints that don't move - hurt, and people with joints that hurt, don't win.

Since Dr. Phillip Santiago's successes as the first sports chiropractor to officially be credentialed and admitted to the 1980 USA Olympic Medical Team for the Barcelona Olympics, there have been sports chiropractors at the Olympic Training centers and treating team USA ever since.

When you choose a chiropractic physician for your aches, pains and injuries don't you deserve a chiropractor who is qualified to deliver the same level of care that Team USA gets?

In order for a chiropractic physician's application to merely be accepted by the credentialing committee, you must have a minimum post graduate CCSP qualification. CCSP means Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician. It's an intense 130 hour post graduate program followed by a National Board examination. The CCSP credentials carry a lot of weight and bring with them excellent knowledge for any team or athlete needing a physician with a great understanding of the evaluation and management of sports injuries.

In order to maintain a CCSP, you must get an additional 12 continuing education hours per year in sports medicine related subjects and maintain an active CPR card

The only thing that trumps the CCSP, is the DACBSP. DACBSP stands for Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians. In Florida, in order to say you "Specialize" in sports injuries / sports medicine, you must have a Diplomate. The DACBSP program starts with a CCSP certification and adds an additional 200 classroom hours, you must publish in a peer reviewed scientific journal, spent a minimum of 200 "on-field" hours with teams/athletes, pass a 2nd National Board written examination and pass an intense practical "hands-on" examination consisting of management of a spine injured athlete, evaluation and management of a head trauma athletes, radiology, athletic taping, evaluation & management of an upper extremity & lower extremity injury.

Once passed, you are considered a sports injury specialist. In order to maintain the diplomate, you must get an additional 24 hours of sports medicine education per year and maintain an active CPR card.

All this is above and beyond what is required to maintain your regular Doctor of Chiropractic degree.

As taken from the official web site of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (http://www.acbsp.com/) Here are the chiropractors in Miami that have CCSP or DACBSP qualifications:

William Atherton, DC, CCSP, DACBR
(305) 895-6408
dacbr@hotmail.com
North Miami, FL
(William is a Chiropractic Radiologist and doesn't see patients, however he reads X-rays as his specialty; He's a diplomate of the American Chirorpactic Board of Radiology)

Joseph Gambardella, DC, CCSP
(305) 598-8788
drjosephdc@aol.com
Miami, FL

Carlo Guadagno, DC, CCSP
(305) 386-9559
wkchiro@fdn.com
Miami (West Kendall), FL

And of course.....ME

Todd Narson DC, DACBSP
(305) 672-2225
miamibeachdoc@yahoo.com

Remember, your every day aches and pains, your injuries at work and injuries from fender benders and car accidents are all traumas. CCSP and DACBSP chiropractors are trained in the assessment and treatment of sports injuries. Which are simply traumas that happened while playing sports. If you think you deserve the same level of care as our US Olympic Team Athletes, then give one of the doctors above a call.

Trans-Fats Lead To Heart Disease. Eliminate Them From Your Diet NOW!!!

--> The hydrogenation process produces synthetic trans fats which are, quite literally, metabolic poisons. These rigid trans-fats dramatically interfere with all cellular function including increasing LDL (bad cholesterol), while decreasing HDL (good cholesterol). They also damage arterial walls creating lesions that accumulate plaque, as well as prevent our bodies from acquiring the much needed "cis" essential fatty acids that are critical for proper metabolic function and good health.
The trans fats (aka hydrogenated & partially hydrogenated oils) damage the lining of your arteries, cause an inflammatory response, scar tissue heals these and along with plaque buildup try to repair the arterial wound. Cholesterol sticks to these plaque-adhesions and you get blockage.
It's trans fats that do it, not saturated fat, not mono or polyunsaturated fats, it's trans fats.
change your way of thinking about fats, good fats are: Saturated, Poly & Mono Unsaturated.
Bad fats are Trans fats.
Good fats come from nature
Bad fats come from man made crapola.

WHOLE FOODS PROMOTES MILITANT VEGETARIAN AGENDA

-----PRESS RELEASE FROM WESTON A. PRICE FOUNDATION-----

WHOLE FOODS PROMOTES MILITANT VEGETARIAN AGENDA

Has the Upscale Market Outlived Its Usefulness?WASHINGTON, DC. February 3, 2010: Whole Foods Markets has launched a nationwide "Health Starts Here" marketing scheme that endorses a low-fat, vegetarian diet, with promises that the diet will "improve health easily and naturally." The plan promotes the books and private business ventures of Joel Fuhrman, MD, and Rip Esselstyn, both of whom worked with Whole Foods to formulate the new guidelines. Customers now receive a pamphlet urging them to adopt a low-fat, plant-based diet and to cut back or completely eliminate animal foods. Many Whole Foods stores no longer sell books advocating consumption of meat, eggs and dairy products.

The plan will feature new Aggregate Nutrient Density Index (ANDI) labels for foods in the store; the index is designed to make plant foods to appear "nutrient dense" by favoring various phytonutrients in plants and ignoring many vitamins and minerals essential to health. "Whole Foods has stacked the deck against animal foods by choosing ANDI parameters that do not include a host of key nutrients, such as vitamins A, D and K, DHA, EPA arachidonic acid, taurine, iodine, biotin, pantothenic acid, and vital minerals like sodium, chloride, potassium, sulfur, phosphorus, copper, manganese, boron, molybdenum and chromium," says Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation. "Many of the phytochemicals that Fuhrman includes in the index he developed for Whole Foods play no essential role in the body and may even be harmful.""Animal foods like meat, liver, butter, whole milk and eggs contain ten to one hundred times more vitamins and minerals than plant foods," says Fallon Morell.

"Plant foods add variety and interest to the human diet but in most circumstances do not qualify as 'nutrient-dense' foods.""For years before becoming deathly ill, I followed the dietary suggestions in the Whole Foods plan," said Kathryne Pirtle, author of Performance without Pain. "I ate large amounts of organic salads, vegetables and fruits, lots of whole grains, only a little meat and no animal fat. I had chronic pain for twenty-five years on this diet, then acid reflux, then a serious inflammation in my spine followed by chronic diarrhea. Without switching to nutrient-dense animal foods, including eggs, butter and whole dairy products, not only would I have lost my national career as a performing artist, I would have died at forty-five years old! I am not alone in this story of ill health from a low-fat, plant-based diet, which does not supply a person with enough nutrients to be healthy and can be very damaging to the intestinal tract."

"Consumers can send a message about Whole Foods' misinformed scheme by voting with their feet," says Fallon Morell. "Most major grocery store chains now carry basic organic staples and a larger array of organic fruits and vegetables than Whole Foods markets. And citizens should purchase seasonal produce and their meat, eggs and dairy products directly from farmers engaged in non-toxic and grass-based farming. It's not appropriate for Whole Foods to promote a scheme that has no scientific basis and that bulldozes their customers towards the higher profit items in their stores." The local chapters of the Weston A. Price Foundation help consumers connect with farmers raising animal foods in humane, healthy and ecologically friendly fashion.

"The growing emphasis on plant-based diets deficient in animal protein also serves to promote soy foods as both meat and dairy substitutes," says Kaayla T. Daniel, PhD, CCN, author of The Whole Soy Story: The Dark Side of America's Favorite Health Food. "Soy is not only one of the top eight allergens but has been linked in more than sixty years of studies to malnutrition, digestive distress, thyroid dysfunction, reproductive disorders including infertility, and even cancer, especially breast cancer." "Low-fat patients are my most unhealthy patients," says John P. Salerno, MD, a board certified family physician from New York City. "The reason we are spiraling into diabetes and obesity is because of the low-fat concept developed by the U.S government decades ago. Low-fat diets have a low nutrient base, and phytonutrients in vegetables cannot be properly absorbed without fat."Fallon Morell cites recent studies from Europe showing that low-fat diets promote weight gain in both children and adults, and also contribute to infertility. A meta-analysis published January, 2010 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found no significant evidence that saturated fat consumption is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

"Whole Foods CEO John Mackay has stated that eating animal fats amounts to an addiction. But in fact, animal fats are essential for good health," says Fallon Morell. "The nutrients in animal fats, such as vitamins A, D and K, arachidonic acid, DHA, choline, cholesterol and saturated fat, are critical for brain function. In the misguided war against cholesterol and saturated fat, we have created an epidemic of learning disorders in the young and mental decline in the elderly.""Perhaps the vegetarian diet has affected the thinking powers of Whole Foods management," says Fallon Morell. "It's time for the stockholders to insist on leadership devoted to increasing customer base, not promoting a personal vegetarian agenda.

Expert Validates Chiropractic Standard of Care

(From the Connecticut Chiropractic Association & American Chiropractic Association)

“The most recent research (Neck Pain Task Force Report of the Bone and Joint Decade 2000-2010, a study sanctioned by the United Nations and the World Health Organization) indicates neck manipulation is a safe and effective form of health care,” according to Matt Pagano, DC, chiropractic profession spokesperson.

Respected researcher and epidemiologist J. David Cassidy, DC, PhD, DrMedSc, testified as a key witness last week at the hearings on informed consent before the Connecticut Board of Chiropractic Examiners in Hartford, Conn. Speaking as an expert witness and consultant to the International Chiropractors Association (ICA)—and with the support of all chiropractic organizations involved in the process, including the American Chiropractic Association, Association of Chiropractic Colleges, Foundation for Chiropractic Progress, Life West, New York College of Chiropractic, Parker College of Chiropractic, Palmer College of Chiropractic, and the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic—Dr. Cassidy addressed key facts and issues on the basis of the existing science and research record, to which he has been a significant contributor. The objective of his testimony was to bring the discussion from an emotional issue back to science and the objective research record.

Dr. Cassidy joined an extensive list of witnesses representing the chiropractic profession, including William J. Lauretti, DC; James J. Lehman, DC, MBA; J. Clay McDonald, DC, JD, MBA; Gerard W. Clum, DC; Stephen M. Perle, DC, MS; Gina Carucci, DC, MS, DICCP, who appeared on behalf of the Connecticut Chiropractic Association (CCA); and George Curry, DC, FICA, who appeared on behalf of the Connecticut Chiropractic Council (CCC).
“The chiropractic profession unequivocally supports a patient’s right to be informed of the material benefits and risks of any type of health care treatment – not just chiropractic. Legislation or regulatory mandates governing informed consent should apply to all health care providers and all treatments in equal measure. However, a new law, regulation or mandate highlighting one specific treatment by a specific health care profession, which carries with it an extremely rare association and no causal link identified in the research, is simply not good public health policy. It would set an unnecessary precedent for all health care providers, procedures and products that would be virtually impossible to implement,” said Pagano.
The existing informed consent standards in Connecticut allow for the best opportunity for shared decision making between a patient and his or her health care provider. Further, the chiropractic organizations participating in the hearing process all believe informed consent is more than a piece of paper; it is a process. It should occur in the context of a discussion between a doctor and a patient, and it should be appropriately documented.

In a finding highly relevant to the issue before the Connecticut Board of Chiropractic Examiners, the Neck Pain Task Force study demonstrated that patients suffering from headache and neck pain are no more likely to suffer from a stroke following a visit to a chiropractor than they are after a visit to a family medical physician. This implies that there are factors involved other than the type of care provided by doctors of chiropractic. It’s important to note that millions of patients safely benefit from chiropractic care every year—they are able to return to their normal activities and enjoy a better quality of life.

Dr. Cassidy was an investigator with the Bone and Joint Decade 2000-2010 Task Force on Neck Pain and Its Associated Disorders. The work of this international task force affirms the safety and benefits of chiropractic care for people with neck pain—a condition frequently treated by doctors of chiropractic. The Task Force initiated this new population-based, case-control and case-crossover study, which appeared in the Feb. 15, 2008 edition of the journal Spine. The study, which analyzed nine years’ worth of data from a population of 110-million person years, concluded that vertebrobasilar artery (VBA) stroke is a very rare event and that the risk of VBA stroke following a visit to a chiropractor’s office appears to be no different than the risk of VBA stroke following a visit to the office of a primary care medical physician (PCP). The study goes on to say that any observed association between VBA stroke and chiropractic manipulation—as well as its apparent association with PCP visits—is likely due to patients with an undiagnosed vertebral artery dissection seeking care for neck pain and headache prior to their stroke.

Over the years, popular media has all too often sensationalized the association between chiropractic cervical manipulation and cerebral vascular accidents—even though the evidence would strongly indicate that this assertion is incorrect. The organizations representing the chiropractic profession believe this most recent evidence should help to dispel any myths on this issue, as well as provide more data to support the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic procedures.

As a profession, doctors of chiropractic remain committed to expanding the research and clinical understanding of VBA injuries, because even one cerebral vascular incident that could have been prevented or detected early is one too many.

Agave Nectar...Is This The Latest Health Scam?

If you read no further, here's the bottom line: Agave Nectar Contains More Synthesized Fructose than High Fructose Corn Syrup

Funny, I fell for the PR/Marketing hype of the product too. I guess I really wanted to believe that there was a good, fun, normal tasting and healthier substitute. After I read an article on the processing of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), I realized that Agave Nectar has the same % Fructose to Glucose as HFCS I started to become suspicious about Agave Nectar being a healthier alternative sweetener. Turns out my suspicious were correct and this stuff is just a different form of processed fructose and just as evil as HFCS (and table sugar for that matter).

To read more, follow this link to the Weston A Price foundation article and get all the gory details for yourself.

But for now, if you want something sweet, get the sugary sweetness in it's original package....Fruit.

But it looks like processed sugar is processed sugar...and once you take sugar out of its natural form, the body doesn't handle it so well.
